A letter from Riley

The maker

Hi, I’m Riley.

I’m a one-time colon cancer survivor. After my recovery, I started crocheting — at first just to keep my hands busy. Then because I realized the slow craft of it gave me something I hadn’t felt in a long time. Quiet. Patience. Peace.

I make these bags now because every person touched by cancer deserves something beautiful to carry their story — literally. Not awareness merch. Not a printed tote. Something handmade, something soft in your hands, something that can be worn out in the world as a quiet symbol of who you’re fighting for, who you’ve lost, or who you’ve become.

Every bag leaves my workshop with care. Every ribbon is hand-stitched. All of them carry a piece of why I do this.

Thank you for being here. Whoever you’re carrying with you, I’m honored to make this for you.

Every Riley’s Resins bag is crocheted by me, by hand, in my home workshop.
Never mass produced. Never outsourced.

Stories from the families I’ve made these for

Real words from the people who now carry a piece of their loved one with them.

“I lost my mom to breast cancer last spring. I bought the breast cancer bag and now I carry it everywhere — to work, to therapy, to her old garden. It’s the first thing that’s made me feel like I’m still walking through the world with her.”

— Rachel M.

“I’m a 2-year survivor and I wear the breast cancer bag like armor. People stop me everywhere — in grocery stores, at the gym — to ask about it. I get to tell them about my story and Riley’s. It’s become my favorite way to talk about it.”

— Jordan T.

“I was Dad’s caregiver for two years before he passed from prostate cancer. The prostate cancer bag has become part of my daily uniform. I carry him with me to the office every day now. Best money I’ve spent in a long time.”

— Diane C.

Since 2024, I’ve crocheted over 1,000 bags for people touched by cancer — with 5% of every order donated, receipts published.

Frequently asked questions

check_box

How are these bags designed?

Every design was developed with input from the cancer community — warriors, survivors, caregivers, and grieving families. Each bag features hand-crocheted granny squares in a ribbon color matched to the cancer category it honors, with raised ribbon motifs and a cotton tassel detail. There are five awareness colors at launch: pink (breast), light blue (prostate), white (lung), gold (childhood), and orange (leukemia). Each bag is its own quiet symbol you can carry out in the world.

How long does it take to receive my bag?

Every bag is carefully handmade to order, and I take great pride in ensuring you receive the highest possible quality.

Because each bag is individually crocheted and not mass-produced, your order will go through a thoughtful production process. Once you place your order, there will be an estimated 2-3 week preparation period before crocheting begins. During this time, I'm sourcing premium cotton yarn in the right colors, prepping the ribbon detailing, and refining the design to ensure your bag is made to the highest standard possible.

After preparation, the crocheting process takes approximately 2 weeks, as every granny square, ribbon motif, and tassel is built by hand.

Once production is complete, your order will be securely packaged and shipped. Delivery typically takes 7-14 business days, depending on your location.

I appreciate your patience and understanding — this extended timeline is what allows me to maintain true handmade quality rather than mass production. Every piece is made with care, attention to detail, and the goal of delivering something truly meaningful and long-lasting.

Can I order a bag to honor someone who has passed?

Yes, and this is a meaningful part of what I do. Each bag is designed with intentional language, soft imagery, and reverent symbolism — never clinical or sad in a way that pities the person you loved. Many of my customers carry these bags in memory of a parent, child, spouse, sibling, or friend. If it would help, send me a note about who I'm making it for and I'll keep them in mind while I crochet.

How can I support cancer research through Riley's Resins?

If you'd like to give beyond your bag order, there's a donation widget on this page where you can contribute directly to a cancer research foundation. 100% of what you give through the widget goes to the foundation — I don't take a cut.

I'll publish quarterly receipts on my donations page showing the total raised, so you can see the real impact of what this community gives together.

check_box

What is the bag made of and how do I care for it?

Each bag is hand-crocheted from premium 100% cotton yarn with a hand-stitched lining inside for structure. The ribbon motifs are crocheted directly onto the bag, never glued or sewn on as separate pieces. The tassel is made from the same cotton yarn and finished by hand.

Care is simple: spot clean with cool water and mild soap. Lay flat to dry. Avoid the dryer, which can damage the shape. With normal use, it's built to last for years.

check_box

What if I don’t love it?

I offer a 60-day satisfaction guarantee on every order, no questions asked. If your bag doesn't feel right when it arrives — for any reason — reach out and I'll make it right with a replacement or full refund. There's also a lifetime craftsmanship warranty: if your bag ever comes apart at the seams under normal use, I'll repair or replace it. No fine print.

check_box

How is this different from awareness bags on Amazon or Etsy?

Most cancer-awareness bags on big marketplaces are mass-produced canvas totes or printed bags with generic ribbon graphics. Mine is the opposite. Every bag is crocheted by me in my home workshop. The designs were developed with input from the cancer community — warriors, survivors, caregivers, and grieving families. And the 5% donation is verifiable, not a marketing claim. You feel the difference the moment you pick it up.

check_box

I want to gift this. Do you offer gift packaging or notes?

Every bag arrives in my signature cream gift box with tissue, ribbon, and a small printed booklet about the cancer category it honors. You can add a free handwritten note from you at checkout (up to 100 words). If you'd like to ship directly to the recipient, you'll get the digital order confirmation while the package ships to them — including their tracking. I see a lot of birthdays, anniversaries, last-treatment days, and remission days. I'm honored to be part of those moments.
